Purpletop
Tridens flavus
Warm season bunchgrass ideal for infertile, rocky soils
About Purpletop
Purpletop is a perennial warm season bunchgrass generally found in meadows, roadsides, and open woodlands. This grass boasts a decorative pyramid shaped purple seed head in mid to late summer. It is best adapted to areas with more than 30 inches of annual rainfall and prefers well-drained, infertile, shallow and rocky soils. Purpletop is tolerant of road salt so it often colonizes roadsides. Works well alone or in mixes with other warm season grasses.
Plant in spring.
