Virginia Wildrye
Elymus virginicus
A cool season native grass adapted to sun or shade!
About Virginia Wildrye
Virginia Wildrye is very unique among prairie grasses. It is a cool season, native bunch grass that grows best in moist soils, tolerates upland sites, and likes shade or full sun. It is widely adapted throughout the U.S.
This is a medium height grass that has beardless heads that remain upright at maturity. It can be planted alone or in pasture, habitat, or floodplain mixtures. Palatability and nutrition are very good when hayed or grazed before heading.
